My eye for design began while living in Waco back in 1996. I began experimenting with milk paint to paint a wood bedroom set black. I loved how it turned out then began using chalk paint to transform a piece of furniture that was most likely headed for the dumpster! Friends began asking me to paint pieces of their furniture and my business began to grow.
I was always one of those people who would get bored with how my house looked, so I would rearrange furniture, swap out accent pillows or lamps because I saw it as an easy and inexpensive fix to get a new look. I would also spend hours flipping through furniture and design magazines just in awe of how someone could create such lovely spaces. Through the years, friends and family would complement my home and how it looked.
I remember finding joy in design and I liked seeing the vision I would create in my head come to life. My mom always kept our home beautiful, neat, and clean and she must have passed that on to me.
In 2014, I was asked by Joanna Gaines to help with special projects for the HGTV show, Fixer Upper. I had worked with Joanna on a few prior projects, and this seemed to be a great fit for me as I was already working full time in Hospice and a single mom. I always loved to shop in her store Magnolia when it was located off Bosque Blvd. For the next 4 years, I collaborated with her and the design team on small projects for the show. It was also during that time, I began having clients hire me for design work, help pick paint colors, furniture selection, and redo rooms in their house. Further growth took place when Magnolia Home asked me to help launch their chalk paint line. This involved finding over 30 pieces of furniture to paint for their content while working with BEHR/ KILZ art design team to chalk paint them.
I was asked to be a part of the video and photo tutorials on how to apply chalk paint and waxes. In addition, I was then asked by BEHR and KILZ to help launch their chalk paint lines essentially doing the same process- find unique furniture pieces, work with design team, paint pieces, then assist with photo shoot. They used the pieces I found and painted in all their brochures. This experience alone helped to launch where I am today.
In 2017, after living in Waco for 25 years, our family moved to Houston, Texas. This is when my design business took off!! Within in months of our move, I found myself working on multiple design projects. As I would complete a project, the next one would begin.
Word of mouth began to spread my business. I began to wean from chalk painting and focus more on interior decorating and design elements. With lots of prompting from friends, family, and clients, I finally decided to launch a website and social media page. If you know me, this is a BIG step, but I do feel like it is a great way to show prospective clients work I have done.
